Alan's life in brief

Created by Andrea 6 years ago

Only child to Charles and Doris Gray he spent most of his childhood in Hatfield and Colney Heath, Hertfordshire

Met and married Phyllis and had two children Andrea and Darren.

Self taught in electronics worked for many years at British Aeorospace dynamics before being made redundant and then working as a call center operator for the elderly.

Following retirement Alan and Phyllis decided to move to Norfolk which is where they spent time together. Alan continuing with his hobbies and Phyllis getting involved with the local community.

Alan was a very talented man and had many hobbies. Loved woodwork and made a lot of his own furniture, walking sticks and calvings out of odd bits of wood.

He self educated his way to obtaining his radio licence and transmitted to people all over the world either by radio or morse. He loved his radio and made a lot of his own rigs and morse keys.

Another of Alan's hobbies was painting. He loved to draw and paint watercolours of scenery in which he had visited.

Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2009, Alan struggled to continue with a lot of his hobbies and eventually had to accept that he was not able to do all that he used to.

He moved down to Hampshire in 2016 to be closer to his daughter Andrea. In that time he has been able to enjoy the sea and the surrounding countryside.

I was with great sadness that Andrea and Darren lost a loving father on 8th Feb 2018
